Skane University Hospital Address:Sweden
My interest for gastrointestinalimmunology started in the middle of the 90s during my medical studies at Lund University in Sweden.I have carried out a full-?time preclinical PhD in the field of Immunology and defended my thesis in December 2004.My research-?focus was during this period the function of homing molecules on lymphocytes in relation to the gastrointestinal immune system, working primarily in murine models. I also worked 14 months as a Visiting Research Fellow in Medicine at Harvard Medical School(Rheumatology,Immunology and Allergy,Brigham and Women'sHospital)in Boston,USA.Subsequently I focused on my clinical Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. Around 2010 I began to combine clinical work with research activities in the field of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD),moving from murine models to human tissues obtained from IBD patients and colorectal cancer patients as well as healthy controls. My research group currently consists of three PhD-?students, one Post-?doc, and two Undergraduate students, and the main lines of research are: A) Exploring IBD pathobiology and the opposite pathways leading to resolution of inflammation and mucosal healing.B)Exploring tools for optimising the clinical management of IBD. The projectscomprise basic science objectives, translational, and clinical objectives. I lecture on these subjects regularly in both nationaland international meetings.I am member of the IBD Expert Group of the Swedish Society of Gastroenterology issuing national IBD guidelines; the IBD Expert Group of the Swedish Medical Products Agency issuing national IBD recommendations;the Swedish Organization for the study of IBD; the Swedish IBD2020 Group; the Nordic IBD Group; and the Gastroenterological Immunology Group of Sweden. I peer-?review manuscripts for a number of scientific journals, and I have participated as Clinical Investigator in a number of sponsor-? initiated clinical trials.
