Biography

Dr. Hediyeh Karimi received the B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering- Electronics from the Islamic Azad University, Bojnord Branch, Iran, in 2008 and M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical-Mechatronics and Automatic Control from school of Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Malaysia, in 2011 and 2014 respectively.

In 2011, she began her PhD work at the faculty of Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Malaysia. From 2012 to 2014, she continued her research work as a junior researcher in a computational nanoelectronic research group (CoNE) and Center for AI and Robotics (CAIRO), where she completed her Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering on graphene based DNA sensors. Her research interest includes nanoscale non-classical device (sensors and transistors) simulation, modeling and characterization, biosensors and bioengineering, nano electronic devices and applications, nanotechnology artificial intelligence. Her current research interest is in the emerging area of Nanoelectronics devices focusing on the use of carbon based materials and novel device structure.

Dr. Kshitij Shinghal obtained his bachelor’s degree (B.E) in Electronics and Communication engineering, master’s degree (M.Tech.) in Digital Communication and doctorate (Ph.D) in wireless sensor networks with the School of Electronics  and Communication Engineering from Shobhit University. He is currently working as an Associate Professor with 17 years of experience in teaching and research. His research areas of interest include Embedded Systems, VLSI Design, Wireless Sensor Networks, and Ad-Hoc Networks. He has published 60 research articles in International Journals and Conference Proceedings. He is currently a lifetime member of 07 International Societies. He is an editorial board member, advisory board member and reviewer of more than 20 International Journals both Scopus and ISI Indexed. He is the Chief Editor of MIT International Journal of Electronics and Communication (MITIJEC). He is an elected fellow member FIAET. He has reviewed more than 100 research articles for leading International Journals. He has attained Google scholar citations-132 and h-index-05. He has written two books (Switching Theory and Logic Design  ISBN 935140224X & Network & Systems ISBN 8183981186) for engineering students. He is a Best Reviewer Award Winner from International Journal of Recent Trends in Electrical and Electronics Engineering in 2016.

Biography

Dr. Vilallonga graduated in general surgery in Vall d'Hebron Hospital in 2008. He trained in IRCAD (Strasbourg, France) with Dr. Jacques Marescaus and Dr. Bernard Dallemagne. Also trained with Dr. Keith Kim in Celebration Hospital (Florida, USA) for robotic bariatric surgery and Dr. Raul Rosenthal in Cleveland Clinic (Florida). He developed the robotic bariatric and children program in Vall d'Herbon Hospital. Currently he is working in Belgium with Dr. Jacques Himpens in a high volume center.

Ali Asadian is a Postdoctoral Fellow at CSTAR/UWO, London, Canada. He received his B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering/Control Systems from Sharif University of Technology (Tehran, Iran) in 2002 and his M.Sc. degree in the same field from University of Tehran (Tehran, Iran) in 2005. Ali obtained his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering specialized in Medical Robotics from Western University (UWO) in 2013. From 2005 to 2007, he was a teaching assistant and lab assistant in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Tehran as well as an industrial design engineer. From 2008 to 2013, Ali worked at CSTAR as a research assistant involved in needle insertion/steering project. Dr. Asadian's current research interests are comprised of needle insertion, concentric-tube robots, rehabilitation robotics, control theory and its application to minimally invasive surgery.

In 2005 he received the “Student Travel Award” during the IEEE 9th International Conference on Rehabilitation Robotics in Chicago (USA) and he was Visiting Researcher at the Department of Neurophysiology, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium. Since 2011 he is coordinator and member of the Scientific Committee of the “Rehabilitation Bioengineering Laboratory” in Volterra (Italy), joint research laboratory between Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna and “Auxilium Vitae” Rehabilitation Centre. He is member of the Scientific and Technical Committee of “Auxilium Vitae” Rehabilitation Centre. Since 2003 he is Assistant Professor at the University of Pisa at School of Engineering and since 2009 he is Lecturer at the Specialization School in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Faculty of Medicine and Surgery. Since 2012 he is serving as co-chair in the IEEE/RAS Technical Committee on “Rehabilitation and Assistive Robotics”. He has authored/co-authored about 60 peer-reviewed publications in international journals, books and conference proceedings.

Dr. J. Desiderio is a researcher at the Department of Digestive Surgery – St. Mary’s Hospital of Terni – University of Perugia.

He is interested in minimally invasive surgery, laparoscopic and robotic, in particular in the field of gastric, colon and liver surgery.

He made numerous publications in the field of minimally invasive surgery and works closely with the Clinical Robotic Surgery Association.

A. Marc Gillinov, MD, is a staff cardiac surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic Heart and Vascular Institute. He holds the Judith Dion Pyle Chair in Heart Valve Research at Cleveland Clinic and is Surgical Director of the Center for Atrial Fibrillation. One of the nation’s premiere mitral valve surgeons, Dr. Gillinov has special expertise in minimally invasive mitral valve repair surgery, robotic valve surgery, and surgical ablation of atrial fibrillation. He performs between 300 and 400 open cardiac operations annually.

After graduating summa cum laude from Yale University, Dr. Gillinov entered the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he ranked first in his class. Dr. Gillinov received his clinical and advanced training in general surgery and cardiac and thoracic surgery at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. He joined the cardiac surgery staff of Cleveland Clinic in 1997.

Dr. Gillinov is an internationally recognized expert in mitral valve repair surgery and in the study and treatment of atrial fibrillation. He has been at the forefront of development of new, less invasive treatment approaches for mitral valve disease and atrial fibrillation. He has delivered hundreds of invited lectures at hospitals, academic meetings and seminars in the United States and abroad.

His administrative activities at Cleveland Clinic currently include leadership of the Internet Physicians’ Advisory Council, directorship of the Atrial Fibrillation Innovation Center and membership in the Research Council of the Heart and Vascular Institute and the Cleveland Clinic Commercialization Council. In addition, as Experience Officer for the Heart and Vascular Institute, he is integral to Cleveland Clinic’s initiative to design and implement strategies to optimize the patient experience.

To his credit are more than 200 publications, 8 continuing medical education films, and 19 chapters in medical /surgical textbooks. Dr. Gillinov co-authored “Heart 411: The Only Guide to Heart Health You’ll Ever Need” (New York: Three Rivers Press – Random House. ISBN: 978-0-307-71990-4).

In addition, he is an inventor on 4 patents, including a patent disclosing new techniques for valve repair for which he received a Cleveland Clinic Award for Innovation. He has been instrumental in ushering in a new era in cardiovascular medicine with his contributions to the scientific development of percutaneous approaches to heart valve disease.

Dr. Gillinov is a member of ten scientific societies, and he has held leadership positions in the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association, and International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery. He serves on the Editorial Boards of The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, The Journal of Heart Valve Disease, The Journal of Cardiac Surgery, and Innovations.

Consuelo Granata received her bachelor in Computer Science and Control from the UniversitàdegliStudidell’Aquila (Italy) in 2006, a M.Eng in Control from the UniversitàdegliStudidell’Aquila in 2007, a M.Sc. in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence from the Université Paul Sabatier (France) in 2008 and a Ph.D. in Robotics at ISIR-UPMC in 2012, from the University Pierre et Marie Curie (France).

Her research interests include human-robotics interaction (HRI), personal mobile robots, human detection and decision-making. In particular, she specialized in the field of robotics for cognitive stimulation of elderly with cognitiveimpairment. She is now starting a research activity on motion capture and analysis for balance and movements assessment. From January 2012 to December 2013, she was postdoc researcher at the Institut of Intelligent System and Robotics in the University Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris, France.She is research fellow at CNR-Santé, Nice, France and in October 2012 she has joint the Human Robotics Group at Imperial College as visiting researcher.

Medical imaging is getting more important in modern medicine including radiology, surgery, neuroscience, etc. In case of radiology, there are several shortcomings in case of typical diagnostic radiology, due to the qualitative reading of a human observer. In addition, the rapid development of recent medical imaging equipments which produce a tremendous amount of image data makes the typical medical image reading nearly impractical. In the other cases of surgery, computer guided navigator and robot surgery using medical images have been actively introduced to make surgical procedure safer.

My major research areas are MR perfusion and diffusion analysis for tumor diagnosis, image guided navigator/surgery system, computer aided radiology, and brain/neuro science. Table 1 lists my active research collaborators. The basic technology of these research interests consists of MR physics, digital imaging processing, image segmentation & registration, image analysis & understanding, optimization, machine learning, etc. My colleagues and I have developed and applied these engineering techniques to transform the previous qualitative radiologic reading, surgery, and neuroscience into a quantitative and computer assisted application.

Prof. Dr. Günter Janetschek was trained as urologist in Innsbruck, Austria and for one year in Mainz/Germany. He was vice chairman at the Department of Urology in Innsbruck from 1990-1991. After a short stay at the Department of Urology of the Medical School in Vienna he became a chairman of the Department of Urology at the Elisabethinen Hospital in Linz. Since 2009 he is professor of Urology at the Paracelsus Medical University in Salzburg, Austria. He is well renowned for his clinical and scientific work in laparoscopic surgery, and he has developed several new surgical techniques. He has published more than 200 peer reviewed articles, many book chapters and two books. He has been the invited faculty to many countries to give lectures and to demonstrate his operative skills. In the format of a Fellowship Training Program, he has trained many urological surgeons form all over the world. He is past president of the Austrian Society of Urology and honorary member of the Hungarian Society of Urology. He was a board Member of the scientific committee of the European Association of Urology, a board Member of the ESUT (European Section of Urotechnology), the ESU (European School of Urology) and he has several other functions in the EAU. Recently, he has become founding member of SCITReCS (Spinal Cord Injury Tissue regeneration Center Salzburg).

Dr Elli was trained in a two-year fellowship in Robotics and Bariatric Surgery at the Minimally Invasive Surgery Center at University of Illinois at Chicago, Dr. Elli completed his general surgery residency at the Department of Surgery at UIC.

He was previously trained at the University of Buenos Aires, where he obtained his title of Gastrointestinal Surgeon by the Argentinean Surgical Association. He later served as Coordinator of Bariatric Surgery at the University of Buenos Aires Teaching Hospital.

Dr. Elli joined the division of General, Minimally Invasive, and Robotic Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he acts as an Assistant Professor in Surgery.

He has broad experience in the entire range of general and minimally invasive surgery, with special attention on robotics, foregut surgery, hepatobiliary, solid organ, and abdominal wall hernia repair, as well as bariatric and bariatric revisional  surgery.

He has more than 15 years of experience in bariatric . Dr. Elli joined the division of General, Minimally Invasive, and Robotic Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he acts as an Assistant Professor in Surgery and a Chief of Bariatric Surgery.

Dr. Elli has published numerous publications in peer reviewed journals. He has also presented his work at national and international meetings and has co-authored several book chapters in surgical textbooks.

His areas of expertise are, Bariatric Surgery, Robotic surgery, Esophageal and foregut surgery, abdominal wall reconstruction.
