Dr. Sachin Kumar has completed his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. Before joining Sardar Swaran Singh National Institute of Renewable Energy, Kapurthala as a Scientist in 2009, he has been awarded CSIR-GATE fellowship at Indian Institute of Petroleum, Dehradun. He has more than nine years of research experience in Biochemical Conversion of Biomass to Biofuels including lignocellulosic ethanol, biogas, biohydrogen, etc. During his career at NIRE, he has developed the state of the art laboratory facilities for Biochemical Conversion of Biomass to Biofuels. He has completed a project of Rs 88.27 lakhs as Co-PI and a project of Rs 132.19 lakhs as PI and a project of Rs 56.67 lakhs as Co-PI are under progress. His area of research is biofuels, bioprocess engineering, enzyme technology, metabolic engineering, etc.
Dr. Sachin has published more than 13 papers in peer reviewed journals, 14 book chapters/ papers in conference proceedings and 03 edited books. He has read more than 35 papers in national and international conferences and 03 guest lectures. He has supervised four M.Tech. students and four B.Tech./M.Sc. and three Ph.D. students are under progress. Currently, he is also supervising one postdoctoral fellow, two SRFs and one JRF. He is serving as an assistant editor and editorial board member of various peer reviewed journals. He has been granted one US patent and one filed patent in India. He is a life member of three professional societies. He has been honoured with the most coveted Institutional and globally reputed presentation of ‘Bharat Jyoti Award’ along with ‘Certificate of Excellence’ for contribution in R&D by India International Friendship Society and chaired a session in an international conference. He has coordinated three national conferences and three training programs.

Seungkwon You is Professor of the College of Life Sciences and Biotechnology at Korea University. He received a B.S. from Korea University in 1989, and a M.S. from the University of Minnesota in 1994. He received his Ph.D. in Molecular Endocrinology from the University of Minnesota in 1997. His research interest is focused on reprogramming somatic cells into other lineages that have stem cell properties such as neural stem cell, oligodendrocyte progenitor and pluripotent stem cell. In addition, he has investigated conditioned medium system which can induce regeneration and rejuvenation effect in body. He has made numerous contributions in molecular cell biology and has given numerous invited talks.

Sin-Yeang Teow is currently doing his PhD in University Sains Malaysia. He has completed his thesis writing and will be submitting his thesis to the university on October 2014. His PhD project mainly focused on developing an antibody immunotherapy against HIV-1. He has constructed a cell-penetrating monoclonal antibody (TransMAb) that targets intracellular HIV-1 capsid (CA) protein by chemically conjugation with cell-penetrating peptides (CPPs). He has also successfully demonstrated the potent antiviral activities of the TransMAb against various HIV-1 infected cell lines, PBMCs, and primary T lymphocytes. He is now selecting the anti-CA antibody with higher affinity using phage display technique. After obtaining the antibody in single-chain variable fragment (scFv) format, he will molecularly conjugate the antibody with CPPs to enhance the antiviral activities.

Research Interests

HIV immunotherapy only. He is also working on Dengue virus, PCR-based diagnostic tool against colorectal cancer, antibacterial activities of natural products, exosome-based cellular delivery system and proteomic works.

Taesik Chae is currently a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Materials Engineering at the University of British Columbia, Canada, expected to complete the program in December 2014. At present, Chae's research is focused on bio-inspired calcium phosphate/biopolymer nanocomposite fibrous scaffolds for hard tissue regeneration. He earned the M.A.Sc. degree for his work on bioceramic-based pastes for hard tissue reconstruction from the University of British Columbia in 2007, and B.E. degree from Chungnam National University, Korea in 2004.

Research Interests

biomimetic process for bio-nanocomposites, biomineralization associated with cell-material interactions, and endodontic dental materials. He is pursuing to develop novel in-situ synthesis strategies for the nanocomposites, which can be harmonized with electrospinning, 3D printing, and electrodeposition technologies. He is also actively involved in studying new generation of endodontic materials for the reconstruction and regeneration of hard tissues inside and around tooth root.

Undergraduate education at Nanjing Tech University (NanjingTech), P.R. China from 2001 to 2005, and did his PhD research at the National Engineering Research Center for Biotechnology (NERCB) of NanjingTech. After obtaining a PhD degree in Biochemical Engineering there at the end of 2009, Dr. Ji became an assistant professor at NanjingTech. In June 2012, he was prompted to be an associate professor of Biochemical Engineering. Dr. Ji has published over 60 peer-reviewed articles with an H-index of 11, and acquired >20 authorized Chinese patents, and applied 2 PCT patents. In 2010, his research work got the 1st prize of Technological Invention Award by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation (CPCIF). In 2012, he got the Nominated Award of the National Excellent Doctoral Thesis of China. In 2014, he was awarded as the excellent University Young Teacher by the Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation and the Ministry of Education of China.

Research Interests

Industrial biotechnology, metabolic engineering and the emerging synthetic biology methods to construct the microbial cell factories for overproducing the commodity chemicals currently derived from petroleum, including 1,3-propanediol, acetoin, and 2,3-butanediol. His research team is also doing cutting edge research on fermentative production of the nutritional polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA)-rich lipids, such as gamma-linolenic acid (GLA)-, arachidonic acid (ARA)-, and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)-rich lipids using fungi. The ARA- and DHA-rich lipids technology developed in his research group has gone in to pilot scale production.

Professor Hossein Hosseinkhani received his B.Sc degree (National Gold Medalist) in Chemical Engineering from Polytechnique University, M.Sc degree (First class, First rank) in Chemical Engineering from Tarbiat Modarres University, and Ph.D degree (Excellent with Honor) in Polymer Chemistry in the field of Biomedical Engineering from Kyoto University in 2002. Dr. Hosseinkhani has broad experience in life sciences and is expert in nanotechnology, biomaterials and stem cells technology for regenerative medicine and biomedical engineering applications. He has been awarded several prestigious fellowships including JSPS Fellowship of Japan at Institute for Frontier Medical Sciences, Kyoto University Hospital (2002–2004), ICYS Research Fellow of Japan at Notational Institute for Materials Science (2004–2008), IRIIMS Research Fellow of Japan at International Research Institute for Integrated Medical Sciences, Tokyo Women’s Medical University (2008–2009), and Visiting Scientist at Center for Biomedical Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA (2007–2009). Dr. Hosseinkhani has 50 issued Japan and U.S. patents, several U.S. patents pending and has authored over 100 international publications in prestigious international journals and over 200 presentations at international conferences till present time. I did my four year BSc (Hons.) in Biotechnology (2007) at the Center of Biotechnology, University of Peshawar and my Ph.D in Biochemistry (2012) from Quaid-I-Azam University Islamabad/University of Missouri, Columbia, USA. During PhD, my research project was dealing in Isolation and Purification of natural compounds/secondary metabolites from plants and microbes. At the same time I was also involved in screening of the natural products against different illnesses including cancer, diabetes, infectious diseases and microbes. After my doctorate degree I joined Department of Biotechnology, Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan as Assistant Professor (IPFP) in late 2012 and later on joined the same Department as Assistant Professor (TTS) in January 2013.   

Research Interests

Currently my research interests are dealing with screening of natural product for different biological activities like anti-cancerous, antitumor, anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-leishmanial and ati-oxidant activity. I am working on Pakistani medicinal plants. Some of the selected plants are showing promising pharmacological activities against cancer, microbes and diabetes while other are showing good anti-inflammatory activities comparable to known COX 2 inhibitors.  Further I am also working on Plan to plant negative interactions know as Allelopathy.

Dr. Mohammad Arif is currently Research Associate at the Department of Plant Pathology, Kansas State University, Manhattan, USA.  Dr. Arif obtained his Bachelor degree in Agriculture and Master degree in Molecular Biology & Biotechnology from G. B. Plant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar, India. He finished his Ph.D. in Biosciences at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. His doctoral research focused on molecular marker assisted screening for disease susceptibility in Dalbergia sissoo seeds and pathogenic variability in Fusarium solani. He was recipient of a merit scholarship during master and fellowship during doctoral program from the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India. He also worked on allele mining and expression profiling of resistance- and avirulence-genes of the Rice-Blast pathosystem seeking the development of race non-specific disease resistance.

During his Post-doctoral research Dr. Arif worked to develop novel detection-discrimination methods based on next generation sequencing (NGS), real time qPCR and isothermal techniques. He conducted research on population genetics of important fungal pathogens. He also conducted research on thermodynamic parameters of 5'-A/T rich non-complementary primer extensions seeking increasing sensitivity of traditional assays. Dr. Arif is a creative researcher and developed some new methods to improve the PCR based methods. He has published about 25 peer-reviewed publications in reputed journals. He is the reviewer of more than 15 peer-reviewed journals and has presented his work in international conferences.

Currently, Dr. Arif is working in collaboration with Plant Biosecurity Cooperative Research Centre, Canberra, Australia, on a high consequence pathogen, Rathayibacter toxicus. He is working on whole genome based comparative genomics, population genetics, evolution and genome-informed diagnostics of this pathogen.  He has research experience on microbial forensics, plant biosecurity, population genetics, molecular diagnostics, comparative genomics, environmental microbiology and bioinformatics.

Dr. Shamkant Bhaskar Badgujar received his Ph.D. from Department of Biotechnology, North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon, India. During his doctoral research he characterized a novel antigenic glycosylated thermostable cysteine protease from wild, thorny and xerophytic Euphorbian plant i.e. Euphorbia nivulia Buch. - Ham. After Ph.D. he moved to Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida, USA for postdoctoral Studies. After that, he joined National Institute for Research in Reproductive Health, Mumbai, India on Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) funded postdoctoral research project. During PDF he had isolated number of novel bimolecule and assessed for their lactogenic activity. He has 8 years of teaching experience and conducting research work in Immunology, Enzymology, Phytochemistry, Herbal Drugs, Protein Engineering, Endocrinology, Toxicology, Proteomics and Genomics. He has published more than 28 research papers in Indian and Foreign Journals of repute. Additionally, he has authorship of three text book of North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon, India. He is recipient of “Best Teacher Award” for the year 2010-2011. He has also organized university level workshops on Biological Sciences. He is a member of national and international scientific societies and reviewer of several high impact journals.

Dr. Yen-Hui Lin is Professor of Safety, Health and Environmental Engineering at Central Taiwan University of Science and Technology in Taiwan. He has a PhD from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in Wisconsin, USA. Dr. Lin’s current research includes the kinetics of ammonium nitrifucation using fly ash-dewatered sludge as a composite supporting medium in a fixed-biofilm reactor.

Azo-dye decolorization in a biological activated carbon process and chromium(VI) bioreduction by E. coli 33456 on chitosan beads. Simultaneous removal of phenol and chromium(VI) in an anaerobic fixed-biofilm process was also investigated

Gholamreza Ahmadian have got my B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Microbiology from Tehran University and Ph.D. from Warwick University in England (in the field of virology and molecular Biology). I have done a 4-years postdoc fellowship in Hospital for Sick Children affiliated to University of Toronto. I have also attended a short-term fellowship of 2-months in University of Tokyo, and also another short-term fellowship at the Shinshu University, and a 3-months fellowship at the International Center for Genetics Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), Italy. I am a member of Iranian Genetics Society and Iranian Biotechnology Society. Currently, I am working as an assistant Professor at the division of Industrial and Environmental Microbiology of National Institute of Genetics Engineering and Biotechnology (NIGEB), in Tehran, Iran. I was in charge of research management office at NIGEB from 2008 to 2014. I have published almost 50 papers in the different field of Biotechnology, Molecular Biology and Microbiology and have files 3 patent in Iranian patent organization. I have been reviewer of some journals including World Journal of Microbiology and biotechnology, Archives of Microbiology, Canadian J of Microbiology and FEMS Microbiology Letters.

Dr. Stanislaus  Francis  D’Souza was an ex   Associate Director, Biomedical Group and  Head   Nuclear Agriculture and Biotechnology Division  Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) Mumbai. He was coordinating  various activities of the Institute with respect to agriculture, plant and microbial biotechnology, environmental biotechnology, nanotechnology etc. Currently he is a Raja Ramanna Fellow at BARC.

Dr D’Souza has a   Ph.D in Biochemistry from University of Mumbai, and has over 41 years of research experience. His major research interest are in the field of Plant biochemistry and  Enzyme and Microbial Biotechnology with special reference to immobilized enzymes and cells for use in bioprocessing, biosensors, bioremediation and nanotechnology, and  has to his credit over 200 scientific papers in  reputed International journals, over another 250 papers in text books and Seminar proceedings, and a few patents .Dr D’Souza has also contributed significantly in academics as an invited faculty member and  PhD examiner at various Universities, IITs throughout the country as well as abroad. He was a Senior Professor of Homi Bhabha National Institute. and Adjunct Professor of  Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai .  He has guided over 25 Ph.D Thesis.  Dr D’Souza is  a Chairman/member/expert at National / International Scientific committees and an editorial board member/reviewer of scientific journals.

 

He is the recipient of the AMI‘Louis Pasteur Award’  for his significant contributions to the field of Microbiology He is  also the recipient of the Indian Nuclear Society ‘INS OUTSTANDING SERVICE AWARD’, and Dept of Atomic Energy- DAE Group Achievement Awards  for his contribution to agriculture and society, ‘Eminent Aloysian Alumnus award,  RACHANA ‘Professional of the year -2013’, award etc  He  is an elected  Fellow of the National Academy of Science, Maharashtra Academy of Science and Association of Food Scientists & Technologists, India.

Jiban Shrestha earned Master Degree in Agriculture (M.Sc. Ag) from Institute of Agriculture and Animal Sciences, Rampur, Chitwan under Tribhuvan University, Nepal in 2007. He is working in the capacity of Scientist (Plant Breeding and Genetics) at National Maize Research Programme, Rampur, Chitwan under Nepal Agricultural Research Council, Nepal since 2010 to till date. Mr. Shrestha has been involved in basic and applied research on maize mainly related to development, maintenance and improvement of hybrid and open pollinated maize varieties as well as soil nutrient management for maize grown in various production systems. He has played vital role for development and release of Rampur Hybrid-2 and two other pipe line hybrids, three pipeline early varieties and one yellow quality protein maize (QPM) variety. He has published more than 35 peer reviewed articles in both national and international journals, more than five proceeding papers, 10 scientific abstracts, 18 scientific reports, 10 magazine articles, one leaflet, one newsletter article and one book. He has been affiliated to more than 80 international peer reviewed online journals and seven national publications as editor or reviewer. Before embarking on his career as Scientist, he had worked as Project Officer at Support Activities for Poor Producers of Nepal (SAPPROS) under Education for Income Generation (EIG) in Nepal Program funded by USAID/Winrock Int’l Institute for Agriculture Development, Nepal.

Presently, I am working on synthesis of nanomaterials, polymer modification, bioelectrode fabrication, and its application in into nanobiosensors, tissue engineering, drug delivery, food packaging applications. Dr Vijai K Agnihotri received his Ph.D. from CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Jammu, India/Kanpur University. During Ph.D. he screened saffron, Achillea millefolium, Bunium persicum, Mentha pulegium, Angelica glauca for their chemical and biological profiling. After Ph.D. he moved to National Center for Natural Products Research, University of Mississippi, USA for postdoctoral studies. During PDF he had isolated a number of novel molecules and assessed their biological activities. During PDF, screening of Nymphaea caerulea flowers, a marijuana substitute was found having a very good antioxidant activity and can be used for the treatment of oxidative stress related diseases. He then moved back to India and joined CCRAS (AYUSH) as a consultant. At CCRAS he contributed in TLC atlas of API Part-I Vol-I and API Part-I Vol-V. At present he is working as scientist at CSIR- Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology, India. He is a member of several national and international societies and reviewer of several international journals. His interest in chemical, toxicological and pharmacological research resulted in several high impact publications, patents and a book.
