Dr Muhammad Younis Laghari is Assistant Professor in the Department of Fresh Water Biology and Fisheries at University of Sindh, Pakistan. He graduate from same University and secured first position in BSc as well as in MSc and awarded with Voice Chancellor’s Silver medal. Dr Laghari got his MPhil degree in “Aquaculture” from the parent department in 2008. In 2010 he was awarded PhD Scholarship from Chinese Scholarship Council through open merit. He was enrolled for the degree in Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) Beijing, China. But his interest in the subject of fish genetics, BIT made an agreement with Chinese Academy of Fisheries Science Beijing to continue his research in area of his interest. Hence, in 2014 he had completed his research work on quantitative genetics of Common carp (Cyprinus carpio). He is member of various societies and research groups. He have joined and presented his research contribution in national and international conferences. At present he is engaged in teaching (graduate and undergraduate students) and research. During his experience and research he have published about 28 research article in national and international journals.

Christophe Brunet performed his PhD in 1994 in biological oceanography at the Université of Paris VI P et Marie Curie). During hid PhD (1991-1994), he worked at the Station marine de Wimereux (Université of Lille I, URA CNRS 1363). Then, he spent one year at the Université of Lille (Laboratory of Plant Physiology and Phycology) with a contract from the University. From 1995 to September 1997, he spent 2 years at the Zoological Station of Naples (Italy) with a grant from E.C. (under the MAST program). From September 1997 to July 2000, he was “Maître de Conférences” (associated professor) at the University of Littoral Cote d’Opale, Wimereux, France). Since September 2000, he is researcher at the Stazione Zoologica di Napoli (Italy) working in the Laboratory of Biological Oceanography. His research field is biological-physical coupling and phytoplankton ecology, especially phytoplankton ecophysiology, studying the variability of primary productivity in relation with physical characteristics. His main interest is the study of the photoacclimation process in algae, working on both in situ studies and laboratory experiments.

He uses HPLC for photosynthetic pigment determination, variable fluorescence for photosynthetic capacity determination and oxygen measurements (to compute P-I curves) for photosynthetic parameters estimation. Since many years, he became an expert of the photoprotective xanthophyll cycle ecophysiology in marine microalgae.

Research Interests

My research belongs to the biological oceanographyfield, and especially regards the interactions between the environment and its variations and the phytoplankton community ecology. My research interest focuses on microalgal photosynthesis and regulation to light climate variations. The main question regards how microalgal cells do acclimate and adapt to changing light environment as it occurs in the water column. Processes as photoprotection, especially xanthophyll cycle activation and non-photochemical quenching, and photoacclimation are studied through biochemical and physiological approaches, in a functional biodiversity and ecological context. Recently, this experience brings me to explore the biotechnological applications of producing and using microalgal biomass. In this field we are strongly interested in the “photosynthetic biotechnology” applications, with research activities aiming to improve the algal production efficiency and the synthesis of carotenoids.

Il Je Yu, Ph.D., DABT. CIH, CSP, RQAP-GLP, EU-UK Registered Toxicologist, holds positions as Professor, Director of the Institute of Nanoproduct Safety Research, Hoseo University, Korea. Professor Yu has more than 30 years experience in toxicology and has served as a director of Center for Occupational Toxicology, Korean OSHA, Ministry of Employment and Labor and a director of Biosafety Evaluation Headquarter, Korea Conformity Laboratories (KCL) under the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy, and consultants and experts in numerous investigations across Korea and East Asia. He has evaluated health impacts from many chemicals and drugs, and has presented a variety of health risk concepts to policy makers, government regulators, citizen groups, and individuals involved in all aspects of the legal process.

Professor Yu holds a Ph.D. in pathology from the State University of New York, Health Science Center at Brooklyn (1989), had a post-doctoral training in Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and is certified in toxicology by the American Board of Toxicology (original certification in 1997 with recertifications in 2002, 2007), and registered toxicologist in UK and EU (2007). He is a Certified Industrial Hygienist (1999) in USA, a Certified Safety Professional (2000) in USA, and a Registered Quality Assurance Professional in GLP (2005) in USA. He is also served as adjunct professors of college of Pharmacy, Sunkyunkwan University in Suwon and College of Medicine, Chung-Ang University. His research has focused on components of health risk models including mechanistic studies aimed at quantifying exposure of critical organ systems, and includes more than 100 scientific publications. Professor Yu has experience with both chemical and physical agents (including pollutants, pesticides, solvents, vapors, metals, microbial agents, and electric and magnetic fields), exposure scenarios (including environmental, occupational, residential, and clinical), and routes of exposure (including inhalation, oral, and percutaneous) during his tenure at Korean OSHA (Korean Occupational Safety & Health Agency). He has conducted health-effects evaluations of a variety of contaminated environmental sites and has experience with numerous air and water quality issues. He contributed a great deal in nanotoxicology research during his tenure at KCL and current Hoseo University by conducting silver MWCNTs, and gold nanoparticle inhalation toxicity experiments and assessing exposure to nanoparticles and nanotubes. Professor Yu served as vice president of Korean Society of Toxicology (KSOT), and is a chairman of education committee of the KSOT, steering committee members and chair of continuing education committee of Asian Society of Toxicology and a member of IART (International Assembly for Recognition of Toxicologist), and members of American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH), and American Society of Toxicology. He served as a working group member for IARC monograph 93 titanium dioxide, carbon black, and non-asbesiform talc” in 2006. He has served as a member of SAP (Sciene Advisory Panel) in US EPA. He led 3 projects (PG3, PG4 and PG9) of ISO TC 229 (Nanotechnology) working group 3 (Health, safety and Environment) and published 3 international standards, and he was a member of editorial board of Inhalation Toxicology Journal. He served as members numerous advisory boards of the National Institute of Toxicology Research, the National Institute of Environmental Research and Korean FDA. Professor. Yu is a leading educator and trainer for Korean toxicology community and organized numerous toxicology education course and GLP training courses.

Seyed Ali Johari,PhD.completed his doctorate in Aquaculture with the "Application of silver nanoparticles for reduction of fungal infections during egg incubation period and possible effects of their release on the alterations of some genomic and physiological parameters in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)" at the Tarbiat Modares University (Iran) and under the supervision of Prof. Mohammad Reza Kalbassi in 2012. During his PhD, he attended a seven-month training period in Hoseo Toxicological Research Center (Korea) under the supervision of Prof. Il-Je Yu, where he continued the aquatic toxicity of silver nanoparticles. Now he holds position as Assistant Professor, Aquaculture Department, Faculty of Natural Resources, University of Kurdistan, Iran. His research activities include risk assessment of nanoparticles in the AquaticEnvironme(Aquatic Nanotoxicology), and also applications of nanotechnology and biotechnology in Aquaculture.

Dr. Aziz Ullah was born in the village Chontrai, Jalbai of district Swabi, Pakistan on 1st March, 1981. He did his Ph.D from the department of Biology, Friedrick-Alexander University, Erlangen, Germany. His Ph.D research was mainly focused on evaluating the impact of various anthropogenic activities on water quality using and standardizing a newly developed automatic bioassay, ECOTOX along with other bioassays. He has published over 20 articles in international peer reviewed impact factored journals on various anthropogenically produced environmental pollutants of aquatic environments. At present, he is serving as Assistant Professor at the department of Botany, Kohat University of Science and Technology, Kohat, Pakistan and is supervising more than a dozen of M.Sc, M.Phil and Ph.D research students in different fields of environmental biology concerned with public health and environmental integrity.

Cristiano Araújo is a researcher of the ULEAM (Universidad Laica Eloy Alfaro de Manabí) in Ecuador and acts in the area of ecotoxicology, environmental biomonotoring and stress ecology. Recently his studies are focused on the avoidance response of the organisms when exposed to contamination. He finished the course of Biology in 2006 at Catholic University of Salvador (Brazil) and performed two Master courses in Ecology and Biomonitoring (at Federal University of Bahia, Brazil) and Oceanology (at University of Cadiz, Spain). In this same university he obtained his PhD degree in 2010. Since 2001 he is working in Ecotoxicology in research project developed in different countries (Brazil, Portugal, Spain and Ecuador). He has studied the effect of different chemical compounds such as metals, hydrocarbons, agrochemicals and effluents to many biological groups (bacteria, microalgae, cladocerans, copepods, shrimps, amphibians and fish). The majority of his publications highlights his experience in ecotoxicological bioassays, environmental risk assessment and stress ecology.

I am Kheyrollah Khosravi and have 26 years old and I spent bachelor and master course in University of Tehran and now I am Ph.D. student in this university. In master course my dissertation title was: Sub lethal effect of diazinon on osmoregulation capability of Caspian Roach (Rutilus rutilus caspicus) fingerlings. I have some experience in toxicology in aquatic animal and some of them have been published as listed below and others have been published in Persian journals.

Dr. Ki-Tae Kim holds position as Assistant Professor in the department of environmental engineering at Seoul National University of Science and Technology (Seoul, Korea). He performed his BS (Environmental Engineering) in 2003 at Kwangwoon University, and his MS in 2005 and Ph. D. (Environmental Engineering) in 2009 at Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST), Korea. He was a visiting researcher at NIES (National Institute of Environmental Studies, Japan) in 2005 and at Clemson University in 2007. He had a post-doctoral training at University of Utah (Dept. Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Chemistry) and at Oregon State University (Dept. Environmental and Molecular Toxicology) from 2010 to 2013. He was a research professor in the graduate school of public health at Seoul National University in 2013.
Our laboratory has focused evaluation of biological interactions in response to environmental pollutants such as nanoparticles, pharmaceuticals, organophosphorus flame retardants, in the embryonic zebrafish model. We have developed the strategies of zebrafish embryonic assay to understand toxicity mechanism underlying developmental toxicity and neurotoxicity to protect human and the environment. We have exploited to maximize toxicological merit of the use of zebrafish embryos; development of toxicological methodologies like high throughput toxicity testing system, graft state-of-the-art molecular tools. The long term goal of our laboratory is to elucidate toxicological mechanism of disease incidence in children; in particular, obesity and diabetes, in the viewpoint of exposure of environmental pollutants using zebrafish embryos. We have also interests in ecological toxicity change of environmental pollutants in the consideration of fate and transport of them in the real environment. We specifically seek to solve the toxicological questions concerning mixture toxicity by using high throughput approaches.

Dr. Li Lin completed his undergraduate at the College of Fishery, Ocean University of China, Master degree on biology at the School of the Life Sciences, South China Normal University, China. Thereafter, supported by the DAAD scholarship, he finished his doctoral dissertation at Heinrich Pette Institute at Hamburg University, Germany and obtained his PhD on biology at Sun Yat-sen University, China. After half year training on fish diseases at Kamiura Station, National Research Institute of Fisheries in Japan and eight years postdoctoral trainings at Pennsylvania State University, Rice University in the USA and University of Saskatchewan in Canada, he returned to China. Since 2012, he is a Chutian endowed professor and the head of the Department of Aquatic Animal Medicine, College of Fishery, Huazhong Agricultural University, China. His research interests focus on two major subjects, infection and immunity as well as microorganisms and aquatic environment. He has been focused on fish viruses epidemic, replication, infection and innate immune responses as well as physiology of Bacillus sp. in the aquatic environment. He is the author/coauthor of about 50 peer-reviewed papers. He is also serving as an editorial member in three scientific journals and as a reviewer in 17 scientific journals.

Prof. Dr. Mario Mitov graduates as a chemical engineer in “Electrochemical productions and power sources” at the University of Chemical Engineering and Metallurgy, Sofia, Bulgaria, in 1985. He begins his professional carrier in Department of Chemistry at South-West University, Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria, in 1987. Currently, Prof. Mitov is a Head of the Innovative Center for Eco Energy Technologies at South-West University, Blagoevgrad. He delivers lectures on General and Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry at the same university. His research interests are focused on characterization of nanomaterials as potential electrodes for rechargeable batteries and fuel cells. Miren López de Alda is PhD in Pharmacy by the University of Santiago de Compostela and currently works as a Scientific Researcher at the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research (IDAEA) that is part of the Spanish Council for Scientific Research (CSIC). Previous to this, she worked for three years as a guest researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Maryland, USA. Her main field of expertise is the environmental analysis of emerging contaminants by LC-MS/MS techniques. She has participated in 14 national and 18 international I+D projects financed in public calls and 20 contracts with companies and/or administrations. She has published 133 SCI papers (Hirsch-index 47) and 28 book chapters, and has presented more than 200 contributions in national and international conferences. She has participated in various EU (Marie Curie, STREP) and Spanish Committees. Her investigations on emerging contaminants (especially those related to the study of estrogenic compounds and drugs of abuse) have appeared in numerous occasions in the public media (press, radio, TV). Internet entries for “miren lopez de alda” related to her work have reached around 95000.

Environmental chemist, Saida SEMSARI was born July 22, 1958, in Blida, Algeria. Doctorate studied in Industrial Chemistry, option Engineering of Environment.
She has taught at the university different subjects related to the field of the environment (Waste Water Treatment, Environmental Chemistry, Biological Processes).
Currently, she is more interested in scientific research and collaborates with a laboratory in Reims, France and a laboratory in Madrid, Spain (see publications).
His current research concerned the study of the development of biological media, such as the plant Lemna gibba transformed into powder and synthesis of bionanocomposites by using biopolymers extracted from the natural starch for the elimination of some organic and inorganic pollutants contained in water (Team work, with her PhD students).
At the beginning of her careers and as a PhD student, she had published articles in “Ecotoxicology” axis by using different biological species and methods (crustaceans, fishs, plants, bacteria, activated sludge and the Daphnia magna phototactic behavior to remove heavy metals from water. For these studies, she has several collaborations in laboratories in Belgium and in France.

Dr. Pei-Hui Wang is a research associate in the department of biochemistry at the University of Hong Kong. He received B.Sc and M.Phil degree in school of life sciences at Sun Yat-Sen University. Dr. Wang got his Ph.D degree from the department of biochemistry at the University of Hong Kong. He is primarily interested in questions relating to (1) the innate immune system of crustacean and (2) interactions between the host innate immune responses and microbial infections.

a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI)is a brilliant product of Calcutta University from where she obtained the PhD in 1971. Immediately thereafter she joined Visva Bharati University and served until 2011. At present she is the NASI Senior Scientist Platinum Jubilee Fellow in the Environmental Toxicology Laboratory of the Department of Zoology, A Centre of Advanced Studies (UGC). In fact she was the pioneer in research in Environmental Toxicology in India. She had a post doctoral stint at the Dept of Toxicology, University of Kiel, West Germany, 1976-78 and again in 1983. She was awarded West German research grants for Equipments for her laboratory at Santiniketan in 1984. In 1990 she visited the Dept of Animal Sciences in Sheffield University as an Association of Commonwealth Universities Development Fellow. She has authored more than 150 articles in different journals and 37 students have been awarded PhD under her supervision. She was the PI of more than 10 research projects funded by national agencies. She presented her research at different Symposia, Conference, Congress etc in India and abroad. At present she has three PhD students working in different areas of Environmental Toxicology. Recently she has also authored a book on Environmental Toxicology published by Allied Press, Kolkata.

Dr Sivakumar Gowder got his academic training and carried out his research in institutions of high academic ranking in India and US. He earned his PhD from the University of Madras, India and continued his research at AIIMS, India. He then moved to US to continue his research at the UT Southwestern Medical Center, LSU Medical Center, and University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Currently, he is working as an Associate Professor of Biochemistry and Pharmacology at the College of Applied Medical Sciences, Qassim University, KSA. Sivakumar received several prizes / awards during his academic career. He has developed his own methods / techniques relevant to his research projects.  As a primary author, he has published research and review articles in many international journals and has also edited basic / health sciences books (Cholera, Cell Interaction, Toxicity & Drug Testing and Pharmacology & Therapeutics / European publications). Currently, he serves as an author / editor for books; editor in chief for an international journal; an editorial member and reviewer for many journals; and as a fellow and advisory board member of various international organizations. He has been nominated as an external examiner of doctoral (PhD) thesis work for many international universities. Sivakumar has served as an invited speaker and chairperson for international conferences.

Biography

I completed my Ph.D. degree requirement from Northeast Normal University in 2008 and achieved postdoc training in Peking University in 2010. I am currently an Associate Research Professor in Chinese Academy of Sciences. I had a funding opportunity for conducting overseas research in the scholarship program called “academy -sponsored visiting scholar/postdoctoral research" in the University of Georgia in 2013. I have been studying and working in some of the most famous environmental biology research institutions in China. During my graduate study and thereafter, I have been doing research in the fields of environmental toxicology, molecular ecology, biochemistry and ecotoxicology.
